On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, the President of Parliament, Mrs. Sarah A. Wescot-Williams, participated in the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) for Trinidad and Tobago, Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten Annual Planning Retreat. The UN Resident Coordinator, Ms. Kazana, invited the President to participate in the session ‘Partnerships, Priorities, and Pathways: Engaging Development Stakeholders to Strengthen Collaboration on the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS.’ This session included Mr. Herrick Henriquez, Director of the Aruba Trade and Industry Association, and was facilitated by Dr. Gabriel Vivas, PAHO/WHO Representative. In her presentation, Mrs. Wescot-Williams focused on economic diversification, social policies, and the development priorities currently in place for Sint Maarten. She highlighted the wealth of plans on Sint Maarten and the need and importance to consolidate these efforts towards the common goal of sustainability. Furthermore, the President also shared information on the post-pandemic reform agenda and emphasized the necessity of maintaining a focus on governance, partnerships, and collaboration. During the open discussion of the session, representatives of the UN entities participating in the Retreat also explored opportunities for collaboration and partnership between Sint Maarten and the UN entities working in Sint Maarten that can assist in accelerating national sustainable development priorities.
