Wednesday, June 4, 2025
The Ministry of Justice continues to push forward with determination in the recovery and stabilization of Point Blanche Prison following the May 14 incident. Authorities remain focused on restoring core operations while prioritizing safety, order, and dignity within the facility.
Fire Safety and Oversight

To address fire risks, the crisis management team enlisted a fire safety specialist. The expert thoroughly assessed conditions and recommended improvements, including enhanced smoke and heat detection systems. Additionally, two members of the Law Enforcement Council toured the damaged area. Their visit reinforced institutional oversight and ensured that the recovery measures align with national safety standards.
Security Systems and Infrastructure
The prison maintenance team completed a full inspection of door locks and repaired all faulty mechanisms. At the same time, ten prison officers underwent training in the use of the facility’s scanning machine, strengthening the prison’s entry-point security. Inmates also play a vital role. They assist with scraping work, and the painting phase begins later this week. Their involvement not only accelerates repairs but also encourages purposeful rehabilitation.
Staffing Support
Staffing efforts remain ongoing. While two guards from Aruba have returned home, three colleagues from Aruba and two from Curaçao continue to assist on-site. Meanwhile, Marines and KPSM personnel maintain a strong presence to support operations and ensure stability.
Inmate Rights and Privileges

Inmates continue to access outdoor spaces daily. Although the emergency halted some recreational activities, the prison hosted a religious service over the weekend. Furthermore, music classes, gym sessions, and sewing workshops resume this week. Probation Services confirmed that more rehabilitation programs will roll out shortly. The department head will visit soon to evaluate program delivery.
Due to space constraints, in-person visits remain suspended. However, officials introduced a structured telephone schedule, which allows inmates to stay connected with families. This service launched last week and will gradually expand.
Health Monitoring
The crisis team reviewed the latest health inspection report and accepted its recommendations. As a result, they are creating a permanent inspection schedule to maintain hygiene and health standards throughout the recovery phase.
The Ministry of Justice urges the public to rely only on official statements. Spreading unverified information risks compromising recovery efforts. The Ministry will continue providing transparent and accurate updates as work at Point Blanche Prison progresses.
