Ongoing Beautification and Infrastructure Upgrades by VROMI Dutch St Maarten

The Ministry of VROMI continues its mission to beautify and upgrade public spaces. These latest works focus on safety, accessibility, and long-term infrastructure improvement.
New Retaining Wall Enhances Road Safety

Crews completed a solid retaining wall at the T-junction of Hulda B. Richardson Road and Bishop Hill Road.
This wall prevents erosion. It stops dirt, soil, and rocks from sliding down the hillside. As a result, the road remains clear and safe for both drivers and pedestrians.
Schrikhekkens Installed for Better Visibility
To increase road clarity, workers installed two Dutch-style schrikhekkens at the same junction.

These highly reflective barriers mark the left and right turns. Therefore, drivers can now see and respond faster—especially at night or during bad weather.
Sidewalk Installation Improves Pedestrian Access

Pedestrian safety remains a priority.
✅ New sidewalks are now in place at the T-junction of Hulda B. Richardson and Bishop Hill Road.
✅ Work continues along A.T.H. Illidge Road.
✅ Sidewalks on Sucker Garden Road are nearly complete.
