On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the Permanent Committee of Parlatino Matters (CPM)

of Parliament convened to discuss the contents and implications of a recently received letter from Parlatino. During the meeting, Members of Parliament reviewed and discussed the letter, which was related to the composition of the Committees of Parlatino by Sint Maarten Members in accordance with the Rules of Parlatino. Members who attended Parlatino Committee meetings between October 2024 and April 2025 gave presentations on their attendance and shared updates and insights touching on topics such as teenage pregnancy, prison reform, inmate access to communication, processed foods, and health protections. The Members also discussed the need for a structured approach to reporting back to Parliament following participation in Parlatino sessions.

The Committee agreed to proposals that will be forwarded to the Central Committee of Parliament for further handling that touches on the number of Members from Sint Maarten per Parlatino Committee, membership in the Permanent Committees of Parliament, the evaluation of the number of Parlatino Committees Sint Maarten has membership in, submission of a written report per Committee attendance that will form part of each Mission report, a debriefing after every Parlatino mission, and submission of an annual report from the CPM at the end of each parliamentary year.
