Minister Brug Urges Businesses to Attend Employment Permit Workshop St Maarten
Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor, Omar Brug, urges all local businesses to attend the upcoming Employment Permit Workshop hosted by the Division of Labor Affairs & Social Services. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Government Building, Conference Rooms 1 & 2.
The Division of Labor Affairs & Social Services organizes this workshop to help employers understand and follow the employment permit process. Specifically, the session targets businesses that hire non-national employees. Throughout the workshop, facilitators will guide participants step by step through the legal requirements and submission procedures.
To start, the workshop will explain when and why a business must request an employment permit. Additionally, presenters will outline employer responsibilities such as compliance, renewals, and documentation. Following this, attendees will engage in hands-on discussions that reflect real-life workplace scenarios. These activities will help participants connect the rules to everyday operations. Finally, a live Q&A session will allow employers to ask specific questions and receive immediate feedback.
Minister Brug emphasizes that businesses must stay informed and compliant. “Employers must understand proper procedures,” he states. “When they do, they speed up processing times and avoid delays.”
As a result, the Ministry continues to support transparent and efficient labor practices. The Division of Labor Affairs & Social Services remains committed to educating employers and strengthening local employment standards. All operating businesses on Sint Maarten may attend. Since admission is free and registration happens at the door, early arrival remains strongly recommended due to limited seating.
