During the press briefing, Bibi Ho Shaw questioned the timeline of implementation following a previously announced investigation by the BTP.
The Prime Minister responded confidently. He explained that in May, the government received a 40-page report prepared jointly by the Regulatory Authority Curaçao (RAC) and BTP St. Maarten.

This document, he stated, outlined actionable recommendations to mitigate high electricity costs. Consequently,
on May 22, the Prime Minister sent a formal letter to the Supervisory Board of G.E.B.E., enclosing the report and instructions for follow-up.

Importantly, he emphasized that the ball now rests in G.E.B.E.’s court. “They must now communicate with their Executive Board and implement the recommendations,” he stated.
Through this process, the government remains within its corporate governance role while pushing for tangible action.
Additionally, the Prime Minister addressed concerns over the procurement of new engines. He confirmed that a bidding process will take place and acknowledged prior visits
to Wärtsilä by G.E.B.E. representatives, including the late Mr. Washington. However, he made clear that those talks had not resulted in finalized contracts.

Moreover, the government has not ignored the public’s demand for answers. By forwarding the RAC/BTP recommendations and maintaining oversight, the administration ensures progress without overstepping governance boundaries.

Therefore, the relief effort stands on solid ground, with the first governmental steps already complete. The Prime Minister stressed that his administration delivered on its promise and expects G.E.B.E. to act accordingly.

In summary, the people of St. Maarten can anticipate next steps from G.E.B.E. soon, as corporate structures now hold the key to implementation.
