Eddie van Marum Takes on New Roles in Cabinet

New Responsibilities Starting Today
As of today, Eddie van Marum will serve as State Secretary with an expanded portfolio. In addition to his current responsibility for the Herstel Groningen (Groningen Recovery) dossier, he now also oversees Digitalisation and Kingdom Relations.
Focus on People and Connection
Van Marum shared his vision for the new Kingdom Relations portfolio.
“It’s clear these topics differ in content,” he said. “But I also see strong similarities: it’s about people, contact, and cooperation – listening, connecting.”
This people-first approach is central to his work.
A Clear Vision for the Caribbean
Van Marum emphasized a shared outlook for the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom. He wants to build trust and show that The Hague is listening.
“I want to give the residents the confidence that The Hague is also there for them,” he said.
He sees common ground between Groningen and the islands of Bonaire, Saba, and Sint Eustatius. On both sides, residents often feel decisions are made about them, not with them.
Strengthening Ties with the Autonomous Countries
Regarding Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten, Van Marum expressed a clear goal:

Ready to Listen and Act
Van Marum plans to meet people across all six islands soon. He wants to hear directly about their experiences and challenges.
