SXM Parliament Public meeting no. 06 of Parliament with agenda point:

In Public Meeting No. 06 on Tuesday, October 29, 2024,

Members of Parliament unanimously voted on four motions presented during discussions on the draft National Ordinance to amend the 2024 Budget.

Member of Parliament Mr. Darryl T.J. York’s resubmitted Motion 1 received unanimous approval.

This motion directs the Government to take proactive measures in environmental protection and management by implementing zoning plans for Mullet Bay,

designating Mullet Pond as a National Park, creating a comprehensive Beach Ordinance, and safeguarding remaining pond areas.

The resubmitted Motion 2, introduced by Mr. Egbert J. Doran, was also approved unanimously.

This motion requests that the Government revise the funeral assistance benefit for active civil servants,

update the VSA burial contributions policy, and explore the possibility of introducing burial insurance.

Motion 3, put forward by Mr. Omar E.C. Ottley, passed with 11 votes in favor and 3 against.

This motion calls for financial relief measures for GEBE consumers, such as waiving outstanding bills and reducing tariffs for residential

The meeting began with the Hon. Minister of Finance,

Ms. Marinka Gumbs giving a presentation to the Members of Parliament followed by the MPs posing questions and clarifications in the first round to the Minister.

The Meeting is currently ongoing with the Hon. Prime Minister, Dr. Luc Mercelina seating in for the Minister of Education, Culture, Youth & Sports Affairs.

The meeting is adjourned and will reconvene at 7:00pm.

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten- The House of Parliament will sit in a Public meeting on October 29, 2024.

The public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 09.00 hrs. in the Legislative Hall at Wilhelminastraat #1 in Philipsburg. The Council of Ministers will be in attendance.
