Curaçao and Sint Maarten Prime Ministers hold productive meeting

WILLEMSTAD – On September 27, Prime Minister of Curaçao, Gilmar Pisas, met with the Prime Minister of Sint Maarten, Luc Mercelina, to discuss various topics of mutual interest. Accompanying Prime Minister Mercelina were his advisor, Stuart Johnson, while Prime Minister Pisas was joined by his Chief of Cabinet, Djurick Comenentia, and advisors Caryl Monte, Miguel Jackson, and Roxiene Albertina.

During the meeting, the leaders focused on several important issues, including the resolution regarding ENNIA, Winair operations, the introduction of a new Caribbean florin in 2025 by the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten, GEBE, the formation of a new government in Sint Maarten, and the upcoming elections for the Staten of Curaçao in 2025.
Regarding the ENNIA resolution, Prime Minister Mercelina indicated that the Sint Maarten government is nearing the completion of this significant process, pending parliamentary approval. Both governments also agreed to continue dialogue on expanding Winair’s routes to Curaçao and connecting the island with more destinations in the Caribbean region.
In light of recent power supply issues in Sint Maarten, Minister Pisas offered technical assistance from Curaçao to help address the challenges faced by GEBE.
Ultimately, both Prime Ministers expressed their commitment to collaborate on projects of mutual interest for Sint Maarten and Curaçao, highlighting the importance of cooperation between the two nations.
