Curacao Calls On St Maarten and Aruba To Clearly State Their Positions On IPKO

Curaçao has called on Aruba and St. Maarten to clearly state their positions on the upcoming Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultation (IPKO). Fergino Brownbill,
Chairman of the Parliament of Curaçao, made the request ahead of the tripartite meeting scheduled for June 30.
This meeting will bring together the parliamentary leaders of the three Caribbean countries within the Kingdom to align

strategies and clarify intentions regarding IPKO, which is currently set for September 26–29 in the Netherlands.

However, uncertainty clouds the IPKO’s status.
The Netherlands will hold parliamentary elections on October 29, which raises concerns about the Dutch parliament’s ability or willingness to commit to IPKO so close to its election period.

Notably, the Caribbean parliamentary chairs have yet to receive official confirmation from their Dutch counterparts regarding whether the September session will proceed as planned.

In light of this ambiguity, Curaçao insists on alignment among the Caribbean partners. During the June 30 tripartite meeting, leaders will address several key topics.
These include: follow-up from previous IPKO and tripartite meetings,

the long-debated dispute resolution mechanism, enhanced regional cooperation, and stronger ties between parliamentary standing committees of Curaçao, Aruba, and St. Maarten.

Although each country approaches the Kingdom discussions from unique perspectives, Curaçao aims to ensure unity and preparedness.

With potential delays or cancellations looming, Brownbill emphasized the importance of clear and coordinated positions.
That way, if IPKO proceeds or is postponed, the Caribbean partners can speak with one voice and ensure their regional priorities remain at the forefront of Kingdom discussions.

Ultimately, Curaçao believes that regional solidarity and strategic clarity will strengthen the Caribbean countries’ stance within the Kingdom—
especially at a time of political transition in the Netherlands.
