Minister of Finance Marinka Gumbs confirmed that the government successfully transferred the necessary funds for the 2025 vacation allowance and indexation to all subsidized schools last week.
These payments ensure that teachers in subsidized schools receive equal treatment to their counterparts in public schools—especially concerning their vacation entitlements.
The Ministry acted promptly and fulfilled its financial responsibilities. As a result, many teachers at subsidized institutions have already received their vacation allowance.

However, the Minister has learned that several school boards have yet to disburse the allocated funds to their teaching staff.

She urged those boards to complete the disbursement process without further delay, emphasizing that the government met its obligations in full and on time.
In addition to the vacation allowance, the government also approved a 2% indexation adjustment for civil servants for the year 2025.

This indexation will take effect retroactively from January 1, 2025, and the adjustment will appear in the July 2025 payroll.
This move reaffirms the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining fair compensation practices across all public sectors.
To maintain public trust and financial transparency, the Ministry will continue monitoring the situation to ensure that the funds reach the intended recipients.

accountability, and support for educators.

As the new fiscal policies roll out, teachers and civil servants alike can expect consistent, transparent updates regarding all allowances and adjustments. Don’t miss Wednesday morning Minister Weekly Press Briefing all videos uploaded here at and the St Maarten News Facebook page
