President of SXM Parliament officially closed Parliamentary Year 2023-2024 St Maarten
On Monday, September 9, 2024, in Public meeting no. 22, the President of Parliament officially closed the Parliamentary Year 2023-2024 in accordance with article 46 of the Constitution. In order for the new Parliamentary Year 2024-2025 to commence on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, the current year must be closed.
The closure of the Parliamentary Year is an opportune moment for reflection. For this reason, Faction Leaders in Parliament were given the opportunity to direct themselves to Parliament and the public of Sint Maarten for a maximum of 10 minutes and reflect on this Parliamentary Year.
The President of Parliament, Mrs. Sarah A. Wescot-Williams, also reflected on the Parliamentary Year and mentioned important highlights that took place.
Before the end of the meeting, the President of Parliament expounded on the theme for the Opening of the Parliamentary Year 2024-2025:
Uncovering and supporting agriculture and sustainable agricultural practices.
Additionally, Parliament is scheduled to sit in a Central Committee meeting on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 11.00 hrs. to receive an update by and go into discussions with the Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication regarding agriculture on Sint Maarten.
